Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an amazing treatment that utilizes components of your own blood cells, often referred to as “liquid gold”, for its benefits. Blood contains both platelets and blood cells, with platelets playing an important role in the body’s healing process. These platelets contain hundreds of proteins called growth factors, which are beneficial for the healing process.
Platelet-rich plasma therapy, aka PRP, relies on the body’s natural healing resources by concentrating a person’s blood platelets for pinpointed treatment areas. The treatment is relatively simple and consists of collecting the platelet-rich plasma by drawing a small amount of the patient’s blood. Then, putting it into an FDA-cleared device, placing it in a centrifuge, and spinning it until the platelets separate from the blood.
What to Expect
The treatment can be performed with or without microneedling.
-In the first case, tiny short needles are used to puncture the skin superficially creating tiny holes to allow the absorption of PRP solution to rebuild collagen and elastin and to produce a tightening effect of the skin. The PRP is brushed onto the skin to serve as a lubricant for microneedling. The benefit of the PRP procedure is the ability to use your body’s own growth factors to stimulate new tissue and healthy skin without any risks of an allergic reaction.
-In the second case, the PRP solution is injected into the areas of concern and triggers the regeneration of the skin, increasing collagen production, and enhances skin texture. Your glowing skin will appear in the following weeks and will last for months.
The controlled-inflammation process caused by the procedure leads to the correction of areas of concern and triggers cellular rejuvenation.
